Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing is taught worldwide and has been in existence for over 25 years now.

Hypnobirthing is a complete holistic antenatal birth education programme

It teaches the basics of how natural physiological birthing unfolds. Hypnobirthing, using techniques previously practised unleashes your inner strengh and resilience, traits you may not have known existed inside of you,

At the heart of the teaching is the principle that a relaxed birth is a satisfying empowering birth for Mother. Simple but specific self-hypnosis. focussed awareness, deepening relaxation and effective breathing exercises are taught.

Hypnobirthing does not mean that you will be in a trance or asleep.

Rather you will be able to chat and be in good spirits-totally relaxed but fully in control, You will always be aware of what is happening during your birthing and be in a very relaxed state to make decisions should your birthing path take a different turn..

Hypnobirthing uses hypnosis and Hypnotherapy to eliminate or significantly reduce the pain of labour by teaching mothers how to relax deeply and use hypnosis to change the way they think about birth.  It is a brain science and evidenced based.

We rewire our brains (so to speak!) to see birth as a comfortable and enjoyable experience. We change our perspective on how we birth for the better using easy enjoyable NLP techniques. So when we re wire our brain to view birth positively our biology responds as well.
Mum and partner are shown how to  develop effective coping strategies around birth and begin to understand how language and your everyday thoughts affect your reality and why there is no logical reason for pain to be an automatic part of birth!

Historically hypnosis was a well respected discipline and  used in the past. See blog on the History of Birth

As Aristotle once wisely said  "THE MIND OF A PREGNANT WOMAN NEEDS TO BE CARED FOR"

In recent times  one notable Irish doctor Dr Jack Gibson performed hip replacements surgeries under hypnosis (with no anaesthesia) in Naas regional hospital up to the 1980's. Quite amazing really showing the power of hypnosis.  But it was Grantley Dick-Read an obstetrician in London in the 1950's where much of the modern Hypnobirthing stems from.  He surmised at the bedside of 100s of labouring women in London that pain came from fear causing panic and rising tension in the body from stress and anxiety. He was not able to prove it then and was laughed at but since then it has since been well proved.

Hypnobirthing eliminates this fear-tension-pain (FTP) cycle; ironically the FTP  is the same acronym incidentally for what is commonly known as failure to progress something that we see alot of in hospitals during these modern times!
